Potomac Baptist Church - Passion for God, Compassion for People

John 14:6
I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.

Our Core Values

The core values of Potomac Baptist Church define and direct our desire as a people of God, under the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, to have a “Passion for God and Compassion for People”.

Teaching the Bible
Believing the Bible is the revelation of God’s will and absolute, life-changing truth – our passion is to communicate it with integrity, doctrinal purity and authority in every sphere of ministry.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Sharing Jesus Christ
Believing all people are lost and must be delivered from sin – our passion is to use any Christ-honoring means to pursue, convince, and win those in our local community, Northern Virginia, and the world to Christ.
John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.

Following Jesus Christ
Believing that Jesus Christ desires committed followers and not just adherents – our passion is to encourage and aid each other in making progressively greater commitments to Christ through a purpose-driven environment.
Matthew 28:19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 "teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.

Worshiping God
Believing God’s supreme value and worth is to shape every thought and action, our passion is to have the relevant expression of His worth at the very center of our corporate gatherings.
Mark 12:30 And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength.

Building Christian Community
Believing that everyone yearns to belong and that belonging is vital to unity and effective ministry – our passion is to embrace and practically encourage each person the Lord leads to us, and to practice the “one anothers” of Scripture, preserving the unity of the Body in the bond of the Spirit.
John 13:34 Love one another, as I have loved you.

Meeting Others’ Needs
Believing that Jesus Christ has given us an example of compassion for the needs of others – our passion is to minister to the physical needs of others as a tangible means of relating Jesus Christ to them.
James 2:15-16 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit?

Striving for Excellence
Believing that Jesus Christ is our example and the glory of God is our goal, our passion is to strive for excellence in all that we do.
1 Corinthians 10:31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

Holding Ourselves Accountable
Believing that in the Body of Christ we are called to mutual care and accountability – our passion is to operate biblically, to communicate openly, and to edify one another.
Eph. 5:21 Submitting to one another in the fear of God.

Praying for One Another
Believing that Jesus Christ is our advocate with the Father and that God answers prayer – our passion is to be a praying church, faithfully upholding each other, family and friends, our pastors and leaders, our missionaries, and those whom God has established in authority, and to pray consistently for the lost in our community, local area, and the world.
Matt. 21:13 And He said to them, "It is written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer,’”
