Frequent Questions About PBC

Q: What does your church believe?

A: Elsewhere on this site you can read our statement of faith, but basically we take the Bible, God's Word, as our rule for all of faith and practice. We try to study it and understand it and apply all its principles in daily living.

Q: What denomination are you affiliated with?

A: Potomac Baptist Church is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. Each church is autonomous under Baptist church policy, and PBC operates under a modified congregational governance model.

Q: What do I need to do to join the church?

A: First, you will need to give testimony that you have believed in Jesus Christ for salvation, and are seeking to follow Him daily. Other steps include following scripture's command to be baptized, and attendance in one of our membership classes. Following an interview with the pastor or an elder, your candidacy will be voted on by the church at one of its regular business meetings and the following Sunday you will be welcomed into the church family.

Q: What are the church's long-range plans?

A: A Strategic Planning Task Force recently worked through a multi-step process of studying the church's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. It analyzed the demographics of our host community and also the environment in which we do ministry. The entire PBC congregation is involved at several points with feedback mechanisms and Open Forums. Out of that process are coming clear statements of mission, or core values, and a strategic plan for the future. Our intent is to be intentional, to develop the ministry, programming and staff of the church according to a strategic plan that has been worked out under the direction of the Holy Spirit with wide involvement from the church family.

A long-range facilities plan has been developed and submitted to Loudoun County which will maximize the church's 11-acre site. Future building plans include a Family Life Center, a Youth Center, and an expanded Sanctuary, to seat about 600.
