Believing Christ's command to "go into all nations and make disciples,"...to "Judea, Samaria, and the uttermost parts of the earth," Potomac Baptist Church takes seriously its scriptural mandate to share the Christian Gospel in its neighborhood, around Northern Virginia, and around the world.
As part of the Southern Baptist Convention, the church participates in worldwide missions by contributing a portion of its budget to SBC-supported missionaries.
In addition, the church seeks to regularly add to its missionary support list those skilled and experienced missionaries who are doing specialized work in scripture translation, in rapid harvest areas, in church planting, in theological training, and in other areas of missionary endeavor. By staying in touch with missionaries the church supports, opportunity is given for personal, first- hand contact to encourage prayer and financial involvement. Current missionaries it supports work in India, Egypt, Ireland, Uganda, Croatia, Indonesia, and other countries.
Currently approximately 10 per cent of the church's total budget goes to support missionary effort. A Missions Committee, headed by Mike Smith, makes recommendations on which missionaries to support, organizes and produces the annual Missions Conference, and conducts an ongoing program of missions education for the congregation.
